Google Business Profiles Removing Emojis & Special Characters From Business Names

For the past few weeks, there have been reports via the Lokales Suchforum that Google has been removing emojis and special characters from business names within Google Business Profiles. This means if you try to add an emoji for your name to stand out in the Google local listings, Google may remove that emoji.
Marcin Karwowski posted about this in the forums, he said, “I just noticed that a while ago a huge number of business owners received an email with the same content, that their name was updated and the emoticon was removed from the name. Apparently, Google finally decided to clean it up and removed emojis from names en masse. It’s a beautiful day if emoticons in company names finally disappear.”
Here is a screenshot of a notice he received from Google about Google Business Profiles removing an emoji from the business name:
Darren Shaw said shortly after that he noticed this also with special characters. Shaw wrote, “I got a notification today about an “®” being removed from a name. This client needs that in their name, though.”
Google has a history of adding Und removing emojis from the search results, but the local space has been somewhat left alone from those decisions – that is until now.

Google Ads Advertiser Console Is Down

The Google Ads interface and advertising console is currently down. It has been down for the past 40 minutes or so, going down a bit after 9am ET.
Der Google Ads status dashboard is currently showing everything is fine with Google Ads, but it is not. Advertisers are getting these 500 server errors when trying to load the Google Ads interface:
Here are some of the complaints on Twitter:
FYI #ppcchat it appears @GoogleAds is down. Right now there’s nothing indicating it on their status dashboard >> https://t.co/dQldndgRtr pic.twitter.com/OCOpmctS4j

Why even have a status monitor if it doesn’t work? https://t.co/WOVlG0Y6Ll

I suspect it will be back up soon but for now, just know it is not just you.

Google Search Featured Snippets Tests Define Option On Words

Google is testing the ability to click on a word in a featured snippet within Google Search and define that word. You can also copy the word, if you want. I think this is a Google Search test and maybe not a Chrome test.
This was spotted by Punit who posted a video of this in action on Twitter, here is a screenshot of this video:
Here is the video embed:
Google added “define” option to know definition of selected Term (popup)

The reason I think this is a Google Search test and not a Chrome test is because he lost his Google session and was not able to trigger it again. I can be wrong and this might be a Chrome test and not a Google Search test.
Google is also testing this in other areas of the search results:
Google SERP is testing define options for the definition of limited search terms. Define options are shown in featured snippets, people also ask, Sponsored ads, organic results description & Local business. Have you seen this.

Google empfiehlt, bei TLDs, die mit Spam überlastet sind, keine Billigdomains auszuwählen

Google’s John Mueller said on Reddit, when it comes to SEO, do not pick a cheap domain on a TLD that is overrun with spam.
The question on Reddit was, “Does it matter for SEO if my site is .com / .site /or any other?” The individual added, “I still have the feeling that my site is not well indexed and wondering if the domain address can be the issue.”
John’s response makes it sound like the .site TLD is a spammy TLD that is a bit overrun by spammy sites.
So be careful which TLD you buy your new domain on, not all are equal.
How do you know which TLDs are spammy? Well, Spamhaus.org has a lot.
