on

Summary

  • The November 2020 Xbox Console Update is beginning to roll out for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One family of devices.
  • Xbox Series X|S owners get more dynamic background options and an Auto HDR indicator in the guide.
  • Optimized for X|S” badges make it easy to know which games are ready for Xbox Series X|S.
  • Xbox Game Pass members can browse and pre-load games with a new Coming Soon section.

This month marked the start of the next generation of console gaming on Xbox with the release of Xbox Series X|S, and Team Xbox is excited to continue bringing new ways to make your experience on Xbox even better. Just like we’ve done on Xbox One, we will continue to periodically release software updates designed to improve your Xbox gaming experience based on your feedback, including both delivering you new features and fixing bugs. This month’s release includes new options for dynamic backgrounds, new “Optimized for Xbox Series X|S” badges that make it easier to know which games are optimized for the next generation, a new way to discover games in Xbox Game Pass, the ability to add existing Xbox family members to a new console, and the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.

Personalize your Xbox Series X|S with new dynamic background designs

Dynamic backgrounds are a new feature for Xbox Series X|S, giving gamers the ability to customize their home screen with motion and color. This update adds six new options, including homages to previous generations of Xbox consoles and others based on popular profile themes. Initial fan feedback on the feature has been very positive, and we’re excited to explore additional styles, colors, and designs. You can expect the team to continue adding new dynamic backgrounds in future Xbox console updates!

Identify which games are using Auto HDR with new tech tags

Xbox Series X|S is the best place to play thousands of games from across four generations of Xbox. Besides decreased load times and improved frame rates, Xbox Series X|S customers enjoy improved visual quality with a feature called Auto HDR. When the Auto HDR setting is turned on in your console, it can improve the visual quality of a game without changing its overall look with no additional work from the developer. When you open the guide during a game with Auto HDR running, you’ll see a new tag to let you know the game is benefiting from this feature.

“Optimized for Series X|S” badges let you know which games are optimized

Xbox launched over 30 games fully optimized for Series X|S, including Assassins Creed: Valhalla, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and The Falconeer. Many of your favorite Xbox One games – including Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps – have released updates to take advantage of the increased performance of Xbox Series X|S. To make it easier to see which of your games have been optimized, we’ve added an “X|S” badge to their tiles in My Games and Apps, in both the Games and Full Library views. You can also use the Filter button to see only “Optimized for Xbox Series X|S” games.

Add family member accounts during setup

In September we launched the Xbox Family Settings app on Android and iOS. Right from their phone, parents and caregivers can easily create child accounts, update screen time limits, respond to notifications, and much more. As a result, many gamers are already using family settings on Xbox today. And, those gamers with existing Xbox families will now be able to add family members to their console, right from setup.

November Xbox Update

Pre-install games that are “Coming soon” to Xbox Game Pass!

You can now view, add to “Play later,” and even pre-install certain games before they come to Xbox Game Pass. Just head over to the Xbox Game Pass app on your console or mobile device and look for the “Coming soon” section. While not all games that are “Coming soon” can be pre-installed, we did develop a special feature for the Game Pass mobile app that lets you queue the rest to install on day one. Though you’ll still have to wait to play them like everyone else, your game can be downloaded and ready to play the day it’s available!

Yakuza 4 Remastered
In the absence of the Dragon of Dojima, Kamurocho becomes a jungle without a king, and a power struggle brewing behind the scenes since an infamous hit job in 1984 boils to the surface. Witness events through the eyes of Shun Akiyama, a loan shark known as the “Lifeline of Kamurocho,” Taiga Saejima, who must escape from prison to confront his past, Masayoshi Tanimura, a cop on the wrong side of the law, and Kazuma Kiryu, who finds himself embroiled in the events that shaped his present-day life.

The Last Worker’s Fight for Humanity

Video For The Last Worker’s Fight for Humanity

My name is Jörg Tittel, writer and director on The Last Worker. Together with Ryan Bousfield and his wonderful team of developers at Wolf & Wood, and publisher Wired Productions, I’m delighted to show Xbox players the first glimpse of gameplay from our narrative adventure coming later this year.

In our brand-new trailer, CEO Josef Jüngle takes us on a tour of JFC-1, the flagship fulfilment center servicing the billions of customers of the Jüngle Corporation (whose resemblance to real world corporations is purely coincidental of course). After all – like all leading online retailers – Jüngle has nothing to hide.

Our new trailer offers a sneak peek of the people, the technology, and the high-tech computer algorithms at the centre of Jüngle, with boxes piled as high as skyscrapers. Players will soon be able to experience first-hand Jüngle’s promise that the future can in fact be delivered today.

Dispatching to Xbox later in 2022, The Last Worker is a first-person character and gameplay driven narrative adventure centred around humanity’s struggle in an increasingly automated world, where people are progressively being replaced by robots.

I’ve been lucky to work with the greatest creative team money can’t buy, e.g. composer Oliver Kraus known for his collaborations with Sia, Adele, Florence and the Machine and others and legendary comic artist Mick McMahon (Judge Dredd), whose character designs and concepts we have been working hard to bring to life in immersive, hand painted 3D. Along with these unique visuals, our characters are performed by an all-star cast including Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Jason Isaacs, Clare-Hope Ashitey and David Hewlett… and a couple of actors we’ll save for a future unboxing!

Rainbow Six Extraction Available Now with Xbox Game Pass

Rainbow Six Extraction

A deadly, mutating parasite threatens all of humanity, and it’s up to you (and up to two friends) to stand against it in the new tactical co-op shooter, Rainbow Six Extraction. Available now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and with Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, Extraction launches with full cross-play, cross-save, and cross-progression, making it easier than ever to find allies in your fight against the Archaeans.

And you’re going to want help! The powerful array of enemy archetypes demands smart planning and sharp shooting, and the shifting objectives and mutations make each run an unpredictable challenge. Accomplish your first objective, and you’ll face a choice: extract the team now to bank the XP and progress you’ve already made or push on to the next objective and risk it all for bigger rewards. Progression unlocks new REACT tech gadgets – like the projectile-blocking field wall or enemy-slowing glue grenade – as well as new cosmetic customization items and new weapons for your loadout. But perhaps the most impactful upgrades are for your Operators.

Rainbow Six Extraction features a select roster of Operators from Rainbow Six Siege who have been recruited to confront this crisis. Sledge, Hibana, Finka, Vigil, Tachanka, Ela, and others each have a unique progression path that grants boosted attributes, new skills, and souped-up gadgets to make them more effective in the field. Something to keep in mind when you’re pushing on to that next objective, however: if an Operator goes down and can’t be extracted by a teammate, they will go MIA. You get one chance to re-enter that map area to save them, after which they will be returned to your roster with a significant XP loss. It’s dangerous out there, and the risk is real.

Rainbow Six Extraction

Let’s lighten the mood with a fun bonus: If you own Rainbow Six Siege (or play it through Game Pass) and purchase Rainbow Six Extraction (or play it through Game Pass), you’ll be granted the United Front bundle, which includes four exclusive gearsets split between the two games. You’ll also unlock all 18 Operators featured in Extraction for use in Rainbow Six Siege. See? Fun!

Now, back to business: This game can get seriously challenging, and you’ll want to find friends who have your back. With the Buddy Pass (available after launch), you’ll be able to do just that by inviting two friends who don’t own the game to play with you for free for two weeks. And with a free post-launch plan in place to deliver new content and challenges in the coming weeks and months, you’ll want your crew to get leveled up and ready to tackle what’s next.
