Google Ads makes conversion tracking easier

Google Ads is updating how enhanced conversions work.
The goal is to make tracking easier, more accurate, and less technical.

If you want to read Google’s official explanation, see:
Google Ads Help: Enhanced conversions

What is changing

Google is combining all enhanced conversions into one single feature.

  • Before:
You had to choose between different types (web or leads)
  • Now:
Everything is combined into one system with one on/off switch

At the same time, Google removes the need to choose one setup method.

You can now send customer data from multiple sources at the same time, for example:

  • Website tags (Google tag or Google Tag Manager)
  • Data Manager
  • API integrations

This means you don’t have to pick just one solution anymore.

When this happens

  • The system already supports multiple data sources today
  • From June 2026, the new setup becomes standard

The interface will be simpler, and the old split between different conversion types will disappear.

Why this matters

This update improves how Google measures conversions.

  • More data sources = better matching of conversions
  • Better matching = more accurate reporting
  • Better data = smarter bidding and better performance

Google has also been improving data quality in general, for example by reducing missing or incomplete conversion data in reporting.

This is especially important because tracking signals (like cookies) are becoming harder to use.

How it works (simple explanation)

Enhanced conversions use customer data (like email or phone number) to better connect ad clicks to real conversions.

When enabled:

  1. A user converts on your site
  2. Data is sent securely to Google
  3. Google matches it with ad interactions
  4. You get more complete conversion tracking

You can turn it on with a simple switch in your account settings.

What advertisers need to do

  • Existing users:
No action needed if you already accepted Google’s data terms
  • New users:
    Turn it on in:
    • Goals → Settings (account level), or
    • Inside each conversion action

You can still choose to turn it off for specific conversions.

Important requirement

To use enhanced conversions, you must:

  • Accept Google’s Data Processing Terms
  • Follow Google’s data and privacy policies

This is required because you are using first-party (customer) data.

Bottom line

Google Ads is making conversion tracking:

  • Simpler (one toggle instead of many choices)
  • More flexible (multiple data sources at once)
  • More accurate (better matching and reporting)

For advertisers, this means better campaign performance with less manual setup.
