Old video doesn’t show a recent Donald Trump speech, but a Facebook post claims otherwise
Former President Donald Trump has drawn intense news coverage in the wake of dozens of federal charges against him in connection with classified documents. He’s also spoken publicly about his indictments. But a recent Facebook post that says it shows a new speech from the 45th commander in chief is false advertising.
“PRESIDENT TRUMP IS ADDRESSING TO THE NATION TODAY UPDATE — TRUMP NEWS,” reads the oddly phrased June 16 post.
This post was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)
The video shared in the post is from November 2022, when Trump spoke remotely at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s national leadership meeting.
It doesn’t show him speaking on June 16, as this post suggests. We didn’t find evidence that he addressed the nation from elsewhere on that date, either.
We rate claims this video shows a June 16 Trump speech False.
