Video For Microsoft Flight Simulator Releases the Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing as Inaugural Offering of the new “Famous Flyers” Series

“The Cadillac of the Sky” is ready for takeoff in Microsoft Flight Simulator

Microsoft Flight Simulator is excited to announce the release of the Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing, a celebrated classic of the Golden Era of Aviation that many consider to be in a class of its own. With its bold and elegant design, this biplane has earned praise through the decades as one of the most beautiful and prestigious aircraft ever created. Meticulously recreated by Carenado for Microsoft Flight Simulator, the Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing is the first aircraft in our new series called “Famous Flyers,” a line that commemorates aviation history’s most notable and iconic aircraft.

The Model 17 served business executives at first, but then met a variety of civilian aviation needs and military applications during World War II. It took its first flight on November 4, 1932, and a total of 785 were produced between 1933 and 1945. Its form departs from other biplane configurations in that the lower wing is forward of the upper for visibility and performance reasons, hence the name “Staggerwing.”

The Model 17 features a cockpit sleekly blended with the fuselage between its two wings, a standard undercarriage, and a traditional tail unit. It measures 26 feet, 10 inches in length, has a wingspan of 32 feet, and has seating for up to four, including the pilot. It is powered by a single Pratt & Whitney R-985-AN-1 9-cylinder Wasp Junior radial engine that produces up to 450 horsepower.

The Model 17 boasts a top speed of 240 miles per hour, cruises at 210 mph, and has a range of 670 miles. The aircraft climbs an impressive 1,500 feet per minute and reaches a service ceiling of 25,000 feet above sea level.

Beloved by pilots, the Beechcraft Model 17 is unique in looks and bold in performance. With power to spare, aviators can roar to new heights above the clouds, or take a leisurely cruise over the countryside.

The Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing features steam gauges in the authentic cockpit and is available in nine classic liveries that evoke memories of the Golden Era of Aviation, plus an Xbox, and Aviator’s Club version. Take this gorgeous aircraft on a flight today!

The Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing is available today on the Microsoft Flight Simulator in-sim marketplace for $14.99.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is now available for Xbox Series X|S and PC with Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, Windows 10/11 and Steam and also on Xbox One and supported mobile phones, tablets, and lower-spec PCs via Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Video For Lonely Mountains: Downhill – Launching Misty Peak DLC Today

The alpine air is fresh but dangerously thin, your vision is limited and light raindrops are tapping on your helmet… Today we’re dropping the new Misty Peak DLC for Lonely Mountains: Downhill and it’s totally free. In this free update, you’ll be let loose on the other side of the very familiar Graterhorn Mountain for the first time, where you will encounter the treacherous lost trails of Misty Peak.

If you didn’t know already, Megagon Industries are masters of immersion and this idyllic setting ticks all the boxes for picturesque pitstops and casual exploration. I’ve had the privilege of riding down Misty Peak and I can’t wait for you to experience these new mountain trails. I can promise you that after all my boulder crashes and falling off cliffs, the trail is built with the flair that’s won Lonely Mountains: Downhill a ton of awards. Enjoy the new challenges whilst listening to the natural ambient sounds of the forest blended with the chain of your bike gently caressing the gears.

For the more experienced players looking for a new challenge beyond the seasonal Daily Rides content drops, we wanted to offer something extra to keep things fresh and this free new DLC does just that. It gives you the perfect excuse to race down the mountain once again and battle for those coveted top spots on the leaderboards.

Speaking of leaderboards, well over three million players have been registered globally and the Xbox community has been instrumental in helping us reach these astronomical numbers, thank you!

If you didn’t know, Lonely Mountains: Downhill was initially released in October, 2019. During its first year, it became a hit and built quite a following. Fast forward a year later and more than one million players (1.2 million as of September 2020) had taken on the challenge. The game also won awards such as “Best Indie Game” at the German Developer Awards and “Best International Indie Game” at Poznan Game Arena. A big part of this success was the community behind the game that continues to spread the word about Lonely Mountains far and wide, so, again, we can only thank you for helping the game get to where it is today and hope you enjoy this free Misty Peak content in appreciation of your support!

This is just the latest of many DLCs and updates and it won’t be the last as we continue to try and give back to the community that made this game a success.
