Facebook Provides Tips on How Brands Can Help Address Anti-Asian Sentiment



Amid a troubling rise in attacks against Asian communities and people, Facebook last week hosted a panel session, in conjunction with the Asian-American Advertising Federation, which aimed to raise awareness of the issue among brands and advertisers, and provide notes on how businesses can counter anti-Asian rhetoric.

You can view the full video of the session here, but stemming from the discussion, which included representatives from the Hispanic Marketing Council, IW Group and Facebook itself, The Social Network has published seven key tips for brands looking to do more to support Asian communities.

1. “Tell your story”

By sharing stories from Asian communities, you can increase understanding, and provide perspective from Asian American people.

2. Go further than a solidarity statement

More than simply voicing support, brands should look to translate those commitments into real, meaningful action.

3. Hold other brands accountable

Panel participants advised that advertisers should look support minority-owned media – and to hold other brands accountable, via social media, for the same.

4. Consider where your brand money goes

Advertisers should also consider where they’re investing their ad dollars, and the impacts of that spend, from an ethical perspective.

5. Do more to connect with subject matter experts

Brands can ensure that they get a better understanding of the key issues, and how they can support such, by meeting with relevant experts in the field, and leaders who are dealing with these issues.

6. Ensure diverse representation in leadership positions

A key push, in all aspects, is to look to maximize diversity in leadership. This applies to women, people of color – all elements of societal diversity. Not all brands are in a position to action this, but for those that are, representation can be an important step.

7. Have and create empathy

The main point throughout all of these tips relates to having empathy, and ensuring that a breadth of perspectives are considered within your brand decision making.

These are important tips, addressing a crucially important issue – because as the events of the last year have shown us, there are still significant societal divides that need to be overcome in order to create a truly inclusive and collaborative community.

The only way for us to advance is to evolve beyond the flawed perceptions of times past, and celebrate the skills and contributions of each and every individual. That’s how we improve understanding and inclusion, and as noted in Facebook’s session, brands and advertisers can play a key role within this.

Man Recalls A Dating Catastrophe When He Invited A Felon He Met Online Over To Hangout




There exists a subreddit where people explain stories by setting the precedent of, “Today I F–ked Up,” called “r/TIFU.”

One man shared how he messed up by inviting a girl over to his place, not expecting the night to take a turn for the worst before he had to go to work the next day.

His second date turned into a night of horror after his date started drinking during dinner.

In order to provide some context, he explained how he met the girl on Facebook Dating and had gone on his first date with her over the weekend.

“I did notice that she only smiled with her top row of teeth in the pictures and figured that her bottom teeth might be effed up, but didn’t think much of it,” he explained, already pointing out potential red flags. “She had trad wife energy and I was into it.”

He explained that during their first date, he had learned a lot about her, including her history of battling eating disorders which explained the messed up teeth.

He learned that she doesn’t drink often and that she lives with her parents because she’s preparing for surgery that will require a lot of physical therapy.

“This is all a red herring — nothing about this TIFU has to do with the teeth,” he explains. “I wanted to mention it because I was so focused on this that I didn’t pick up the other red flags.”

Zuckerberg says Meta Quest 3 will get Quest Pro’s key tech feature

Meta Quest 3 is not a reality yet but it is expected to launch this year, probably in the fall at a Meta Connect event. This will be Meta’s consumer focussed headset that will succeed the Meta Quest 2. We recently heard rumors about the headset being much slimmer with more compact display lenses than the Quest 2 and that it could run on a more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset. 

Now, Meta’s recent earnings release has shed some light on new information around the Quest 3. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has confirmed that the Quest 3 will have support for Meta Reality — the technology that allows the headset to be used for both augmented reality as well as virtual reality. This means that the Quest 3 will be a mixed reality headset and not just have virtual reality — much like the premium, enterprise-focussed Meta Quest Pro. This is something we had heard of before, but Zuckerberg seems to have confirmed it.
