Google Search Not Indexing or Serving New Content On July 8th

Published

on

Google Paper Logo On Fire

Google Search is currently having yet another indexing bug, similar to what Google Search experienced just about two weeks ago on June 20th. Google is not indexing new content that was recently published in the past hour or so.

Sites like the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Reuters, CNN, Fox News and many others large publications. Any content published on these sites in the past hour or so are not being indexed and served by Google Search.

The way to see this yourself is to conduct a site command search for a site and use the search tools to restrict the results for content indexed in the past hour.

Here are some examples:

site:wsj.com – past hour:

Wsj Google Last Hour

site:reuters.com – past hour:

Reuters Google Last Hour

site:cnn.com – past hour:

Cnn Google Last Hour

site:nytimes.com – past hour:

Nyt Google Last Hour

site:apnews.com – past hour:

Apnews Google Last Hour

site:nbcnews.com – past hour:

Nbc Google Last Hour

I can go on but I think you get the point.

Last time we reported this, it took Google several hours to confirm the issue on its Google Search Status Dashboard – I wonder if this will be the same.

If you are noticing your content is not being index right now, you are 100% not alone.

Here are some recent complaints about this on X:

This story was posted over 15 minutes ago, normally content on this site is indexed within 2 minutes but this URL is not indexed by Google yet – nor is it showing up in Google Search:

Ser Past Hour Google

You can see that I even requested indexing and it is still not indexed by Google according to Google Search Console:

Forum discussion at X.

Update 7pm ET: After over an hour of new content not showing in Google Search, Google now seems to be showing some new content. The issue is not fully fixed at all yet but it may have started to recovery.

I’ll update this story when I see more of a recovery – including when this story is indexed.

Update 7:40pm: It looks like this story is now indexed and many of the sites listed above are showing recent content being indexed:

Ser Indexed Google

Update 8:45pm: Google has confirmed the issue is now resolved. “There was an issue that was briefly affecting indexing for some sites in Google Search. We quickly addressed the issue and indexing should be working normally now,” Lara Levin from Google told us.

Published

on

Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.

There is a Google Ads reporting outage that has been going on for a while now. I posted the monthly Google Webmaster report – worth checking out, I think. Google Local Service Ads automated lead dispute system is up, we got screenshots. Google Ads is now charging Canadians a 2.5% surcharge fee. Google Ads separate ad groups can remove AI-theming. Google is testing an explore more search box. Google Ads soon will allow pubic hair grooming serving ads. Plus, I posted the SEO video recap video.

Search Engine Roundtable Stories:

Google Ads is currently having an outage for many of its reporting interfaces across Report Editor, Dashboards, and Saved Reports in the Google Ads web interface. Plus, The Products, Product Groups and Listing Groups pages are down across the web interface, API, and Google Ads Editor.

  • August 2024 Google Webmaster Report

Here is the big monthly Google webmaster report, where I catch you up on what changes with Google Search related to Google updates, ranking volatility, SEO, Search Console, UI changes, local and much more. This month we had intense ranking volatility all month, we had autocomplete updates, deepfakes algorithm changes and a big search indexing bug.

  • Search News Buzz Video Recap: Intense Google Ranking Volatility, Deepfake Search Updates & Trump Autocomplete Tweaks

This week we covered how Google said the core update isn’t extremely far away. We also reported on super intense Google Search ranking volatility change later this week and then the ongoing volatility with Google Search over the past few weeks…

  • Google Tests Explore More With Search Section

Google seems to be encouraging searchers to search more for more types of queries with a new “Explore more with Search” carousel. It shows the searcher other topics, with photos, on what they can search on.

  • Google Local Service Ads Automated Lead Dispute System

A few weeks ago, Google announced it is doing away with how it does credits and disputes for Local Service Ads and is switching to an automated system. It seems like that system is now live, up and running.

  • Separate Ad Group In Google Ads Can Remove AI-Theming

Ginny Marvin, Google’s Ads Liaison, said if you put similar keywords in separate ad groups that can essentially make both eligible to be considered for auction selection. It would essentially remove AI-theming (if that is a word) because they are in different ad groups.

  • Google To Allow Pubic Hair Grooming Ads In September 2024

Google will update its Google Ads policy on September 3, 2024, to allow public hair grooming services to be advertised on the Google Ads network, including Display, YouTube, and Search.

  • Google Ads Tacks On Canadian Advertisers A 2.5% Surcharge

Google notified advertisers in Canada they are charging a 2.5% surcharge on top of everything for buying ads on Google. This is on top of many of these advertisers losing the credit card payment option, which was as good as cash for many of them.

  • Google Product Expert Diamond Certificate of Achievement

Here is a photo of a certificate of achievement that Ben Fisher received from Google for his work as a Google Product Expert in the Google Business Profiles forums. This is a Diamond Status version from the Google Product Experts team.

Published

on

Melting Google Logo

Google Ads is currently having an outage for many of its reporting interfaces across Report Editor, Dashboards, and Saved Reports in the Google Ads web interface. Plus, The Products, Product Groups and Listing Groups pages are down across the web interface, API, and Google Ads Editor.

Google posted this update in the Google Ads status dashboard over here:

We’re actively looking into an issue with Google Ads. Report Editor, Dashboards, and Saved Reports in the Google Ads web interface are currently down. The Products, Product Groups and Listing Groups pages are down across the web interface, API, and Google Ads Editor. Thank you for your patience. We will provide an update as soon as we have more information.

It is dated today at 3:38 pm ET, but the issue may have started yesterday.

Ginny Marvin, the Google Ads Liaison, wrote on X, “We’re actively looking into an issue with Google Ads.”

Mike Ryan posted about an issue yesterday on X with reporting, he wrote, “Anyone else having troubles with the Google Ads connector in Looker Studio? I think maybe they are working on it & broke it temporarily.”

Google Ads Reports Issues

Kirk Williams wrote on X, “I’m not crazy! ha, couldn’t figure out why some things were working and some weren’t. Thanks for the update!”

So if you are having issues, Google is working on it.

Although, Google has not posted a resolution time.

Forum discussion at X.

Update at 6:55 PM ET: Google is still working on it:

Daily Search Forum Recap: July 31, 2024

Published

on

Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.

Google Ads launched new PMax reporting and AI generation tools. Google responded to the claims that it was censoring President Trump. Google Ads has click-to WhatsApp message assets. Google has this new hidden gems store section. Plus, Microsoft Advertising and Bing Search ad revenue was up 19%.

Search Engine Roundtable Stories:

  • Google Ads Launches New PMax Reporting Updates & AI Generation Tools

Google announced new Performance Max reporting updates and asset generation and image editing expansions. “We’re adding asset-level conversion reporting to Performance Max, expanding asset generation to App and Display campaigns, improving image editing and much more,” Google wrote.

  • Google Improved Autocomplete Predictions After Trump Criticism

Over the past few days, Google has come under fire over its autocomplete predictions in Google Search around former President, Donald Trump. In the wake of the issue, Google updated its autocomplete prediction system to make improvements in these cases.

  • Google “Hidden Gem Stores” Search Feature

Google seems to be testing a new search feature named “Hidden gem stores.” This shows you shopping and merchant listings from various stores and brands. This does not seem to be the Google hidden gems algorithm, but rather just a fancy title for a search feature box.

  • Microsoft Bing Advertising Revenue Up 19% (Back To Growth?)

Microsoft reported its fourth quarter 2024 earnings and it showed that its search and advertising revenue was up 19%. The last time it was up over 19% in a quarter was 10 quarterly earning reports ago, in Q3 2022.

  • Google Ads Click-To WhatsApp Messages

Google Ads lets you set up message assets to click-to WhatsApp for some advertisers. Message assets allow you to configure an ad asset or button with your responsive search ads in Google Ads, these can lead some users to WhatsApp.

  • Google Certified Innovator

Google had an event for Google for Education named Google Certified Innovator at the Brazil office. There are numerous photos from the event, here is one from Instagram that I found but you can see a lot more on Instagram.
