Peter ‘Spida’ Everitt caught up in false death announcement, Facebook meme
St Kilda great Peter “Spida” Everitt was shocked to find out he had been presumed dead after featuring in a Facebook post that presented like an in memoriam tribute.
Everitt was the subject of a meme by Facebook page The Carlton Draft on Thursday, which included a collage of pictures of the cult figure in his heyday at the Saints.
The post also included the caption, “Today’s kids will never know what it was like growing up with this man in the world.”

The post has since gone viral with spades of concerned family and friends checking in with Everitt, fearing him dead.
Seeing the funny side of the misconstrued post, Everitt was quick to attest that he is very much still alive.
“Everyone thought I’d died,” he told Triple M’s Breakfast with Flan, Ali and Spida.
The close encounter with death also got Everitt thinking about his life and his eventual wake.
“I don’t want to go out without saying what I want to say,” he said.
“The opportunity now is if it was true, I’ve got a chance of going to my own wake – cause you’ve always wanted to go to your own wake.
“I’ve never understood why people have waited until they have died and then had a wake.
“Like, have it a couple of weeks beforehand so you can enjoy it and see what people really think.”
