WordPress.com Changelog: New Blocks, Notes & Plan Changes

WordPress.com Update Adds New Gutenberg Blocks and Collaboration Features

WordPress.com has released a series of updates aimed at making website creation, collaboration, and account management easier for users. The latest improvements include new editor blocks, a more automated gallery experience, better tools for team feedback, and simpler subscription management.

New WordPress Blocks: Tabs and Playlist

One of the biggest additions in this update is the introduction of two new blocks in the WordPress editor: Tabs and Playlist.

Tabs Block Helps Organize Content

The new Tabs block makes it easier to structure information in a compact format. Instead of displaying long sections of content on a page, users can divide information into separate tabs.

This can be useful for many types of websites, including:

  • FAQ sections
  • Product comparisons
  • Service descriptions
  • Step-by-step guides

Each tab can be customized with different styling options, allowing website owners to adjust colors, fonts, and appearance to match their site’s design.

The block can be added directly from the editor by typing /tabs.

Playlist Block for Audio Content

WordPress.com has also introduced a Playlist block designed for displaying audio content. Users can create playlists with multiple tracks and include details such as artwork, artist names, and track lengths.

The feature can be useful for creators who publish:

  • Podcasts
  • Music collections
  • Audio interviews
  • Recorded content

Users can control the order of tracks and choose which information should be displayed to visitors.

The Playlist block can be inserted by typing /playlist in the WordPress editor.

Dynamic Galleries Automatically Display Images

Creating image galleries has also become easier with the addition of Dynamic Gallery functionality.

Previously, users needed to manually select images when creating a gallery. With the new option, WordPress.com can automatically display images attached to a post.

This can save time for photographers, bloggers, and publishers who regularly add multiple images to their content.

To use the feature, users can insert a Gallery block and select the option to use attached images.

Better Collaboration with Improved Notes

For users working together on content, WordPress.com has improved its Notes feature.

The updated system allows collaborators to leave feedback on specific parts of a draft instead of attaching comments to an entire block. Users can also mention other collaborators with @mentions to notify specific team members.

The changes make the review process more flexible and allow teams to provide detailed feedback without needing to work on a document at the same time.

Easier Subscription Plan Management

WordPress.com has also simplified how users manage their subscription plans.

Users can now view available plans directly from their account and switch between options without contacting support. Upgrades and downgrades can be handled through the plan management interface.

For users downgrading their plan, the change will take effect at the next renewal date.

Additional Improvements and Fixes

Alongside the larger features, WordPress.com has included several smaller improvements:

  • Paid plugins now appear immediately in the plugins section after purchase.
  • Traffic statistics have been improved for more reliable reporting.
  • Video statistics now include thumbnails, making content easier to identify.
  • Domain selection help has been improved during signup.
  • The experimental Feature Clips tool for creating short videos is being retired.

A More Flexible WordPress Editing Experience

These updates continue WordPress.com’s focus on making website management easier for both beginners and experienced creators. The new blocks provide more ways to present content, while improvements to collaboration and account management make everyday tasks simpler.

For bloggers, businesses, and content teams, these changes offer more flexibility when creating and maintaining a WordPress website.
