WordPress.com Updates: Custom AI Themes and New Video Player

Over the past two weeks, the WordPress team has been busy developing new features for you. Let’s dive into what’s new!

Custom AI-Generated Theme

WordPress AI website builder has become even better! Now, if you have a Premium or Business plan, it can create a fully custom theme just for you. This theme will be designed based on your goals and brand.

Once you’ve created your theme, you can enhance it even further with the AI Editor. For assistance, simply chat with the WordPress Agent. Additionally, there’s a handy new feature called Annotate that enables you to send multiple edits to the agent simultaneously. This streamlined process allows you to make adjustments more efficiently and achieve your ideal website design with ease!

New Video Player

WordPress also has a redesigned VideoPress player! This is available for Business and Commerce plans. VideoPress is a lightweight player that lets you host and share videos on your WordPress.com website.

The updated player comes with cool new features. It has a clean control bar and chapter markers that make it easier to find specific parts of your video. You can also see thumbnails that show a preview when you move the seek bar. After a video finishes, you can replay, share, or download it through an end screen. And don’t worry—you still have control over sharing and downloading your videos!

Fixes and Improvements

They have also worked on some fixes to make your experience better.

• Improved messages for canceling a Google Workspace subscription, so you know when access ends.
• Replaced the confusing empty cart message about domain renewals with a clear explanation and a quick way to search for a new domain.
• Cleaned up the WordPress Agent’s command menu in Telegram.
• Fixed the missing Search menu item for Jetpack Search on some sites.
• Updated the design of the password reset page to make it clearer and more user-friendly.
• Added a “Retired” badge to show when a theme is no longer being updated.
