Google may be suffering from Microsoft’s Windows 11 browser strategy

Microsoft’s recent actions have made clear that it wants Windows users using Edge browser to stay. Statcounter’s latest data shows that Microsoft has succeeded in doing so. The tracking website shows that Edge saw a slight increase of its market share in November. The graph on the website shows that Edge’s market share has increased to 4.19% in November, from 3.99% in October.

Google Chrome, however, is the only browser to have lost market share. From 65.27% in October, the browser’s market share fell to 64.04% by November.

Edge is third in market share, but it still trails Safari and Chrome. Microsoft’s decision to redesign its browser with Chromium is starting to pay off.

Chrome was recently attacked by the tech giant. It started to show prompts like “That browser is 2008!” What’s the latest?

When a Chrome browser user visits the Chrome browser download page, it will say “Microsoft Edge”. The company changed its aggressive strategy later.

Microsoft started blocking third-party apps such as EdgeDeflector last month. Microsoft redirects users to Edge browser and Bing search engines when they search for anything in the Start menu. EdgeDeflector is an app that allows users to see search results in their preferred browser.

Windows 11 also introduced a new way for users to assign default apps. Users had to change the default app type to match the file type or link type. Users had to modify the default browser file type in order to change FTP, HTTPS or HTTP, HTML, HTM and PDF, SHTML. SVG, WEBP, XHTML, SHTML, SHTML, HTM, HTML, HTM and PDF. Later, Windows 11 added a Set Default’ browser button.

Bing ChatGPT goes off the deep end — and the latest examples are very disturbing

Bing with ChatGPT on Edge browser MacBook Pro

The ChatGPT takeover of the internet may finally be hitting some roadblocks. While cursory interactions with the chatbot or its Bing search engine sibling (cousin?) produce benign and promising results, deeper interactions have sometimes been alarming.

This isn’t just in reference to the information that the new Bing powered by GPT gets wrong — though we’ve seen it get things wrong firsthand. Rather, there have been some instances where the AI-powered chatbot has completely broken down. Recently, a New York Times columnist had a conversation with Bing (opens in new tab) that left them deeply unsettled and told a Digital Trends writer  “I want to be human (opens in new tab)” during their hands-on with the AI search bot.
