71% Of Searchers Give The New Bing Search AI Experience A Thumbs Up

Published

Bing Thumbs Up

Microsoft published a new blog post on the Bing blog about its learnings from its first week with the new Bing AI search and chat feature being live. Microsoft said the new Bing experience has mostly been “positive,” where “71% of you giving the AI-powered answers a thumbs up” in the interface.

Can you believe some chat sessions last over two hours with the Bing chat?

Microsoft also said they have “received good feedback on how to improve” and that “this is expected” as the service is new and user feedback is critical to improve it. Areas they said they need to improve include:

  • Answers that need timely data, such as sports scores or financial reports.
  • They didn’t realize people would use the chat for “general discovery of the world, and for social entertainment.” Some have extended chat sessions with 15 or more questions and the responses can be repetitive and seem provoked in a weird tone. Some even did 2-hour long chat sessions!
  • Technical bugs such as slow loading, broken links, or incorrect formatting, Microsoft said. Oh, by the way, I was given access a week ago, but it still does not work for me at all under my account – Microsoft is working on it.
  • New features such as booking flights or sending email or sharing news and answers and more

Microsoft is working on these issues and feedback, they said, and offered some ideas in their blog post.

What exciting times!

Bing Chat To Work On All Browsers Soon

Published

on

Bing Robot With Computer

Microsoft will bring Bing Chat to all browsers and not force you to use Microsoft Edge to use Bing Chat, in the near future. When exactly, we are not sure, but Bing’s CEO, Mikhail Parakhin has been saying that on Twitter for numerous weeks now.

More recently, he tweeted, “We are bringing it to all the browsers soon.” Why not now? “It’s only about concentrating GPUs where most of our customers are. As we are adding GPUs, we increase availability everywhere.” So it is about making sure to manage the speed and resources of Bing Chat.

Also, he added “of course, there is an additional native support in Edge for the sidepane and stuff that others don’t have.”

Here are those tweets:

Google does the same with SGE, you need to use Chrome currently. I assume those requirements will go away eventually as well.

Google Search Generative Experience Results Not Really Personalized

Published

on

Personable Robot Google

Google’s all-new search engine, the Search Generative Experience, which began to roll out for some, is really not more personalized than what you get from Google’s traditional search results. Google is currently not offering a more personalized search result set or AI generative answer based on who you are.

Of course, when it comes to localizations and previous query, just like with traditional search, you have elements of personalization there. But outside of that, Google’s Search Generative Experience is not really personalized.

Danny Sullivan, Google’s Search Liaison was asked about this on Twitter and he said “Don’t believe they are [personalized].” He added that the search results “can change based on the context of what was previously entered in a conversation, of course.”

Danny added he “will update more if I hear differently.”

Here is the question:

Here is his response:

I guess the confusion on this topic comes from the rumors pre-SGE launch of Project Magi, a more personalized Google Search.

Google Search Showing More Featured Snippets On Desktop

Published

on

Googel Triplets

Google Search is now rolling out more featured snippets, this is not the new perspectives that it said would be coming at its Google I/O event, despite what I wrote in the original story. It is basically where Google shows more than one featured snippet, often two or three.

We saw this on mobile but now it is rolling out on desktop.

This is not the two featured snippets we saw or the multifaceted featured snippets but rather, this is an enhancement to featured snippets.

Rajan Patel from Google corrected me on Twitter saying “Perspectives will have its own filter and is rolling out now on mobile in the US. These screenshots are previously launched improvements to featured snippets.”

As you can see, he said the perspectives are rolling out on mobile but I don’t see those style perspectives yet on mobile.

Here is an example I was able to trigger myself for a query on [core web vitals details] on desktop:

click for full size

When I try that on mobile, I get the perspectives UI we originally saw a while back:
