Google Enhances AI Search with Additional Links and Context
Google is making big changes to how links show up in its AI Search, which includes AI Mode and AI Overviews. This update adds new features like subscription labels and inline links.

Hema Budaraju, VP of Product Management at Google, shared details about five different updates for links in the AI Search. Here’s what to expect:
1. Subscription Highlighting
Google will now label links from users’ news subscriptions in AI Mode and AI Overviews. This means that if you have a subscription to certain news sites, those links will be clearly marked. Early tests have shown that people are much more likely to click on these labeled links.
2. Topic Suggestions
After AI responses, users will see suggestions for related articles or analyses. These suggestions will help users explore different aspects of a topic more deeply.
3. Discussion and Social Media Previews
Google is adding previews from public discussions and social media in AI responses. This includes extra information like the names of creators and communities. This gives users more context about where the information is coming from.
4. More Inline Links
Users will notice more links directly within the AI responses. These links will be placed next to relevant sections of the text, making it easier to find more information.
5. Link Hover Previews
On desktop, when users hover over an inline link, a small preview will pop up. This preview displays the website’s name and page title. This helps users understand where the link will take them before they click.
