Google Brings Back The In Person Search Central Live Events

Google has announced that it is kicking off its in-person SEO, creator, publisher, site owner, etc event named Google Search Central Live. The first in-person event will be in Singapore on November 24, 2022.
Google’s Cherry Prommawin and Gary Illyes wrote “In 2019 we organized events for site owners and SEOs in over 15 countries, specifically in regions that otherwise don’t get much search conference love. Then we had to stop for a while, but promised that we’re gonna resume the events as soon as possible.”
The first of the Search Central Live events are going to happen in-person in Singapore on November 24, 2022.
You can register over here through November 15th and Google will notify those who make the cut on November 17th.
Google said you can expect the same thing from this event that they had from previous events which include “lots of talks from Googlers and other speakers, lots of mingling with your fellow site owners and SEOs, maybe some fun activities.”
There will be more events in other regions, so Google said you might want to not buy a plane ticket just to fly to Singapore for this event. Google may announce an event in your local area in the future, but Google did not specify which locations there will be events at yet.

Microsoft Trying To Relax Chat Limits On Balanced Mode Before Other Bing Chat Modes

Microsoft is planning first to work on relaxing the Bing Chat limits and chat caps for the balanced mode before working on relaxing those limits on other modes, said Mikhail Parakhin, CEO of Bing.
He said this on Twitter, ” we want to keep relaxing constraints in every mode.” “Right now focusing on getting the balance of Balanced right, then you should expect some further relaxation,” he added on Twitter.
He also said Microsoft is seeing “weird spikes in time-to-first-token we don’t understand” saying they want to get these “stabilize Balanced” mode “and get the latency spikes under control first,” before doing the same for Creative and Precise chat modes.
Here are those tweets:
As I stated previously, we want to keep relaxing constraints in every mode. Right now focusing on getting the balance of Balanced right, then you should expect some further relaxation.

Honestly, I want the team to stabilize Balanced and get the latency spikes under control first. We get these weird spikes in time-to-first-token we don’t understand (token generation speed seems fine…).

I did ask Bing Chat about this, and it is going with the PR spin. 🙂

Google Search Status Dashboard Adds Google Ranking Updates

Google has added a new section to the Google Search Status Dashboard – Ranking. The Ranking section will show the confirmed Google ranking updates that Google already posts on its Google updates page.
So now we have crawling, indexing, serving and ranking – ranking being the new one – on this Google Search Status Dashboard. You can access the status dashboard over here.
New dashboard:
Here is what it looks like with data:
And you click on the i and it shows this:
Old dashboard:
Google should be listing in the ranking section the names of the confirmed Google updates, such as the March 2023 core update and other Google algorithm updates.
Here is Google’s announcement on this:
We’re working on unifying the ranking updates page with https://t.co/hQKAEilPD1. Soon, the new “Ranking” section will show the active March 2023 core update, plus history up to 2020. We’ll update this tweet once we’re finished migrating.

Microsoft Bing Chat With Bing Image Creator

Microsoft has announced that Bing Chat in “creative” mode can now create images based on you inputting a description of what you want it to create or referencing another image. Jordi Ribas from Microsoft said on Twitter, “now you can create an image by simply using your own words to describe the picture you want to see.”
It basically just brings in the Bing Image Creator tool that we saw Microsoft integrate within Bing Search recently.
Here is how it looks, although, at the time I am writing this, it does not seem to want to make images for me…
Here is Jodi showing it off on Twitter:
You can also create images directly in Bing Image Creator at https://t.co/rsE3EVS8xf, but I like to use it within Bing Chat—it’s fun to do it iteratively within the multi-turn chat. (2/4) pic.twitter.com/PVXurCms9y

This is powered by OpenAI’s DALL∙E model, which Microsoft says they are using a more “advanced version” of that model.
Personally, I have been having a ton of fun using MidJourney – you may have noticed some of the header images on this site look a bit different.
