Google Search Console Products Rich Result Report Error Handing Change

On December 28, 2021, Google updated the rich results report for product structured data in Google Search Console. The reporting update may result in a change in the number of issues, errors and warnings that you get on and after December 28th in that report.

Google posted this update in the data anomalies page saying “Search Console has changed the way that it evaluates and reports errors in Product structured data. As a result, you may see changes in the number of Product entities and issues reported for your property, as well as a change in severity of some issues from errors to warnings.”

So if you use product structured data, go check that rich results report. There may be new issues and errors that you probably want to address in your next sprint or two.

Google Sitemap 50,000 Limit Based On Location URLs, Not Alternative URLs

Google Sitemap Submission Date A Day Head

We know that each XML sitemap file can contain a maximum of 50,000 URLs but what is counted as the 50,000 URLs? John Mueller was asked if Google counts both the location URL and the alternative URL in the 50,000 limits. John said on Twitter it is just the location URL.

As Google documented, “All formats limit a single sitemap to 50MB (uncompressed) and 50,000 URLs. If you have a larger file or more URLs, you will have to break your list into multiple sitemaps. You can optionally create a sitemap index file (a file that points to a list of sitemaps) and submit that single index file to Google. You can submit multiple sitemaps and/or sitemap index files to Google.”
