Crude, Lewd Facebook Posts Follow Camden County Commissioner Candidate

CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — A candidate for the Camden County Board of Commissioners shared several lewd memes over the years on social media, including jokes about breasts, vaginal orgasms and his genitals.
Samuel E. Sweet is running on a Democratic ticket representing a primary challenge to two incumbent commissioners. A common voice at Gloucester Township Council meetings, Sweet has previously run for municipal office and made a bid to fill a council seat that became vacant last month.
Patch viewed 15 memes Sweet has shared on his personal Facebook account, including posts that contained the following:
- a photo of an individual sticking their hand up their shirt and touching their own breast, which says, “GALS, IF YOU’RE IN AN ARGUMENT WITH A GUY AND THERE’S NO WAY TO WIN…START PLAYING WITH YOUR BOOBS.”
- an “Annoyed Picard” meme that says “HOW THE FUCK ARE THERE SO MANY SQUIRTERS ALL OF A SUDDEN”
- a photo of a smirking man sitting across from two others in a business setting. The caption says, “Interviewer: would you describe yourself as a mature person who is always hard at work? Me: *holding back an erection* yes”
Neither Sweet nor his running mate, Kate Delaney, returned comment to Patch as of this publication. Patch will update with any responses.
The posts appear to be unavailable for public viewing as of Wednesday, and it’s unclear whether they were ever accessible to the public. Sweet posted some of the memes in a Facebook group called “Gloucester Twp. Talk 2.5 (Unfiltered).”
One South Jersey lawmaker claims Sweet’s posts represent a “history of misogyny Camden County Commissioner Candidate Sam Sweet has smeared across the internet over several years,” Assembly Deputy Speaker Pamela R. Lampitt said in a statement.
Lampitt (NJ-6), a fellow Democrat, called on Sweet’s running mate, Kate Delany, to disavow her running mate and “explain why she ran with him in the first place.”
“It’s one thing for a private citizen to hold such reprehensible views,” Lampitt said, “it’s another entirely for that person to put themselves on the ballot to represent over 520,000 Camden County residents. This county deserves so much better.”
Sweet and Delaney are running for two open commissioner seats on the “South Jersey Progressive Democrats” ticket. Running on the pillars of transparency and accountability, their ticket represents an outside bid against candidates running through the Camden County Democratic Committee — kingmakers with heavy influence in the blue county’s political landscape.
Louis Cappelli, Jr. and Jonathan L. Young Sr. represent the Democratic incumbents — Cappelli is the director of the board of commissioners. Republican candidates Jason Fanning and Norman C. Rebel, Jr. have an uncontested primary election.
New Jersey’s Primary Election Day is June 6.
