Microsoft Planning Major Quality Improvement For Bing AI Chat On February 23rd

Published

Bing Ai Chat Quality

A major quality improvement should be coming to the new Bing AI Chat feature on Thursday, February 23rd, said Mikhail Parakhin, the CEO of Advertising and Web Services at Microsoft (see LinkedIn).

Mikhail Parakhin posted this on Twitter this weekend, saying, “Next week is going to be big. Major improvements in the quality of New Bing understanding are scheduled, ETA Thursday 23rd. Sports results will remain flaky for a couple more weeks, though.”

So you may see a big improvement in the overall quality of the Bing AI Chat features, except for sports scores. I asked Mikhail what improvements we may see and he said, two of the biggest changes include the larger context size, which should reduce errors in summarization and text analyzes (especially in Edge) and the new response tagging system that makes Bing less confused in longer conversations.

Here is that tweet:

He also said this would resolve some of the issues Glenn Gabe pointed out with Bing Chat in the Edge sidebar sometimes being wildly wrong. Here are those tweets:

So keep on testing the Bing AI Chat and expect it to get a quality boost on Thursday…

Google Ads Advertiser Console Is Down

Published

Google Ads

The Google Ads interface and advertising console is currently down. It has been down for the past 40 minutes or so, going down a bit after 9am ET.

The Google Ads status dashboard is currently showing everything is fine with Google Ads, but it is not. Advertisers are getting these 500 server errors when trying to load the Google Ads interface:

Here are some of the complaints on Twitter:

I suspect it will be back up soon but for now, just know it is not just you.

Google Search Featured Snippets Tests Define Option On Words

Published

Robot Reading Dictionary Google Logo

Google is testing the ability to click on a word in a featured snippet within Google Search and define that word. You can also copy the word, if you want. I think this is a Google Search test and maybe not a Chrome test.

This was spotted by Punit who posted a video of this in action on Twitter, here is a screenshot of this video:

Google Search Featured Snippet Define Click

Here is the video embed:

The reason I think this is a Google Search test and not a Chrome test is because he lost his Google session and was not able to trigger it again. I can be wrong and this might be a Chrome test and not a Google Search test.

Google is also testing this in other areas of the search results:

Google Says Don’t Pick Cheap Domain On TLDs Overrun With Spam

Published

Woman Picking Straws

Google’s John Mueller said on Reddit, when it comes to SEO, do not pick a cheap domain on a TLD that is overrun with spam.

The question on Reddit was, “Does it matter for SEO if my site is .com / .site /or any other?” The individual added, “I still have the feeling that my site is not well indexed and wondering if the domain address can be the issue.”

John’s response makes it sound like the .site TLD is a spammy TLD that is a bit overrun by spammy sites.

So be careful which TLD you buy your new domain on, not all are equal.

How do you know which TLDs are spammy? Well, Spamhaus.org has a lot.
