Google Ads Conversation Experience To Create New Ads & Automatically Created Assets

Google announced a bunch of new AI features for Google Ads at Google Marketing Live yesterday, including a new conversation Google Ads tool and also improvements to Automatically Created Assets (ACA), amongst some other things, which we covered today on the Search Engine Roundtable.

Conversation Experience In Google Ads

Google announced new AI to help advertisers create ads in Google Ads, Google wrote, “we’re introducing a new, natural-language conversational experience within Google Ads, designed to jumpstart campaign creation and simplify Search ads by combining your expertise with Google AI.”

We saw a glimpse of this a month ago and also in early April but this version is much more advanced than what we saw.

This tool will use Google’s large language models (LLM) and generative AI technologies to help create ads in Google Ads. This includes keywords, headlines, descriptions, images and other assets for your campaign. The advertiser enters the landing page of the website, Google will then crawl it and the AI summarizes the response. There is a back-and-forth conversation where Google Ads will ask you questions and you can answer them so the AI can fine-tune the ad. You can, at any time, edit the ad and modify it, before you decide to publish the ads.

You can continue to prompt it to generate alternative ads as well.

Plus, Google said this aims to improve your ads’ overall ad score so they perform better.

I did ask if there is a limit in the number of back and forth you can go with the questions in the tool and I was told no, by Brian Burdick, Senior Director, Search Ads Automation. So you can go on and on talking to the conversation experience ad creator. Although these things may change over time…

Automatically Created Assets

Then on the automatically created assets (ACA), which is not new, but being improved with AI. Google said ACA will use “generative AI to more effectively create and adapt Search ads based on the context of a query.”

The example Google provided was a search for “skin care for dry sensitive skin.” “AI can use content from your landing page and existing ads to create a new headline that aligns even more closely with the query, such as “Soothe Your Dry, Sensitive Skin.” This helps you improve ad relevance while staying true to your brand,” Google said.

Greg Finn does warn advertisers, “While this technology can greatly improve your ad’s relevancy, it might not be the best bet for highly regulated industries or brands with stringent compliance standards.” “By giving up complete control to AI, Google will be the final say on what is displayed on your ads,” he added.

Oh, I did ask if these AI-generated ads would be labeled as AI generated some how and the answer is not today but maybe in the future, who knows.

  • Google: Site Reputation Abuse Isn’t About Linking


    Danny Sullivan, Google’s Search Liaison, made it crystal clear that the site reputation abuse policy has zero to do with linking. This means that who you link to and/or who links to you has no impact on this new policy that Google began enforcing with manual actions earlier this week.

  • Google May Show How Many Shoppers Purchased On Your E-Commerce Site


    Google has sent some Google Merchant Center e-commerce site managers notifications that a new annotation may begin to show up in the search results next to their site’s listing that shows how many searchers purchased on your site. It may read, “1K shopped here recently.”

  • Google: Proximity Not A Relevancy Factor For Local Service Ads


    Google has updated its Local Services Ads help document on ad rankings to remove the line around “proximity to potential customers’ locations” is a ranking factor for those ads. Ginny Marvin, the Google Ads Liaison, said the document was updated but there was no recent or “sudden change to ranking considerations” to LSA rankings or positions.

  • Google Local Panel With Owner Attribute


    Google can show the owner of the business in the local panels in the Google search results. I suspect this is not new but I don’t believe I’ve seen this before, where Google will add an “owner” attribute to the local panel.

  • Mikhail Parakhin No Longer Working On Copilot At Microsoft


    Mikhail Parakhin, the former head of Bing Search and Microsoft Advertising at Microsoft, confirmed he is no longer working on the Copilot project. He stepped down as the head of Bing Search and Microsoft Advertising weeks ago after Microsoft hired Mustafa Suleyman as the CEO of AI at Microsoft.

Google Search Ranking Update Volatility On May 9

I am seeing signs of a possible Google search ranking update today, May 9th, between a spike in early chatter this morning within the SEO industry and many of the tools showing a significant lift in ranking volatility in the Google Search results.

As a reminder, the March 2024 core update started on March 5th and ended on April 19th, 45 days later. We then reported on ranking fluctuations both before April 25th (thinking it was the core update still) and also on May 3rd. And now we are seeing more ranking volatility on May 9th.

It is still early in the day but I am seeing a spike in chatter about Google Search ranking volatility and fluctuations this morning. Here are some quotes from WebmasterWorld, this site and social media:

I am watching my Matomo real-time stats, and it feels like Google is throttling traffic on and off, on and off.

I don’t know about you guys but in my niche, something definitely has changed since last night. It’s not your regular shuffling. It’s nothing major but I am seeing even more Reddit pages, even more thin discussions and expired auction pages ranking. I don’t know if Google is doing this in anticipation for ChatGPT’s search but they have changed something. Are you guys seeing anything? In my niche, something definitely happened.

Without giving away my niche, I am going to give you one example: allamaa dot sa. I have never ever seen this site rank for anything in my niche. Now it’s in top 4/5 position for a bunch of keywords starting last night.

I am noticing that after last night, seems Google has gotten even worse understanding intent. I search for something very specific, it is showing me pages with one word of what I searched for ranking in top 10. I am so done with this man.

Yes, I am 50% down again. ha ha (not that it matters, as from 25 to 12 or 10 I do not care)

The SERPs are 0 intent. In most searches I have no intent competition at all (maybe 1 or 2), and yet Google push me down to page 4, 5, 6, and what not. They rank just pure non related garbage.

Will Google announce an update? This is not a normal shuffle. I sense a change. Hard to explain but you can almost tell something is off even more than before. I really hate Google. I hate Google with a passion. I am now starting to hate their employees too. I know it’s not their fault but what they have done to businesses like mine is unforgivable. All for what? They were already making a lot of money.

All affected pages have continued to decline since March and are gradually disappearing completely from the top 30…It seems like she has a serious illness (HCU). I can no longer hear this drivel from Google about any site eventually recovering from HCU.

Yes maybe if you sold it, the contents were completely deleted and wasn’t used for a few years. Then it may be that it ranks again…
